HOME 1947 – 2017
Home 1947 is an immersive multi-sensory exhibition which chronicles the stories of people who were forced to flee their homes during the partition of the Indian subcontinent. The exhibition premiered in Manchester in July 2017 for the 70 year anniversary of Partition and has traveled to Mumbai, Lahore and Karachi with thousands of visitors free of cost. The series was first premiered as part of the ‘HOME 1947’ Exhibition at the Manchester International Film Festival in the U.K as well.
“Part of the artwork is a recreation of a pre-partition home, while another room contains films with personal stories. In one, a woman remembers leaving her childhood friend, recalling how they would sit for hours under their favorite mango tree, swapping secrets. A second has a police officer remembering his euphoria and spontaneous cheers that broke out when his ship docked in the new country of Pakistan” – The Guardian
